monitor cuts off randomly

By MRECKSHUN ·
I HAVE AN HP PAVILLION, RUNNING 2KPRO WITH A COMPAQ V70 MONITOR. I'VE HAD THE SAME RIG FOR 2YEARS. NO CHANGES. NOW THE MONITOR JUST GOES ON STANDBY AT APPARENTLY RANDOM INTERVALS AND WON'T BE ROUSED BY THE MOUSE OR KEYBOARD. I HAVE TO PUSH THE POWERBUTTON TO SHUT DOWN AND THEN RESTART. (SETTINGS HAVEN'T CHANGED) ANY IDEAS?

There are few possibilities of the monitor cable to be faulty. Try to get it changed or try not to move the cable once the monitor is ON.
Also, You can check for all the Power settings under your 'Display Properties' and make sure there is not setting for switching-off the monitor. Maybe its not able to 'Wake-Up' the monitor once 'Off'
Cheers.

Ok we need to find out why the monitor is not receiving a signal. It could be that the monitor is going bad and is unable to receive the signal. Or we could have a situation where the computer is not sending a signal to the monitor. I have a laptop that does that with certain video drivers.

It would be nice if possible to try another monitor on the computer and see if the problem repeats. If the problem persists with another monitor the problem could be power settings. Try disabling yourBIOS power management and only use windows. If problem persists try setting all windows power management to "Never".

Another problem could be with the video card drivers. You may want to try to update them through the card manufacturer's website. Many times I have seen issues with NVidia drivers provided by computer manufacturers that went away when drivers from NVidia were used instead.

I would can give more detail for steps to perform these actions if you need. Feel free to email meor just repost here requesting more details.

If these steps don't work, posting what you did and the results would help us troubleshoot.

Good Luck,
David

Despite some of the moronic answers given above about the monitor or monitor cablbe going bad, the only option is to change the Power Settings under Control Pannel to never for every thing and your computer will no longer suffer this punishment.
