Monitor employees’ Internet use

My boss wants to know:
1. Which sites employees access, for how long they stay browsing and at what time.
2. Which employees use IM, with whom are they chatting, for how and at what time.
What software-based solution can I use.
Ideally, the one that will cover both objectives.

use a web proxy server. but first publish company policy on im and internet usage first. educated users about what is going on. say in there you will be watching and they have no right to privacy. well, don’t put it that way. :>) as for im, why allow it? bad for security

We use something called SurfControl. For the money it’s well worth it!

We use a tool called Web Inspector. It is designed to do exactly what you are looking for. I like this tool and it is very effective. It will not only give you all of that data, but allow you to set filters for blocking websites, ICQ, MSN Messenger, IRC, Telnet and so on. Ask them politely to write down a full description of their Internet activity and give the papers to the Boss, the next step of the Total security and monitoring is to take the employees PC’s and lock them into the Boss desk;) – in this case NOBODY can have any Internet activity and you don’t need to worry about it.
