MS-Dos USB CD-Rom Support

By JoBriKa ·
I need to make a Mitsumi External CD-Rom available in natural MS-Dos v6.2. I have a hard drive that has a corrupt hard drive, in the Windows directory. I need to get some Database files off the hard drive onto a CD. The unit before failure had a Mitsumi CD-RW drive. Problem can not get the usb ports active without windows. Any Ideas?

MS-Dos USB CD-Rom Support

Check out this link at www,bootdisk.com

It goes over a couple of methods to run a USB CD drive under DOS.

If all you need to do is extract files from the drive, I suggest that you install the drive as a slave in a desktop system.

I use a "hot-swap" bay on my PC just for this purpose.
It is hooked up to a separate controller, so I need only to set the jumper on the drive to master without slave present, and boot up.

I use this to set updrives for new systems with a copy of the Windows CD and downloaded device drivers.

You can often find hot-swap bays for under $10.
