msi 6199va won't reconize celeron 533

By charlespinsent ·
i have msi 6199va ver.2.this is a slot 1 board.flashed bios to present, but can't get the board to reconize celeron 533.i have tested this chip on another board in a socket 370 to slot 1 and it is ok.could someone have a look at this board and tell me if i am doing something wrong.the most recent flash enables the board to reconize celeron chips with bus at 66mhz.

msi 6199va won't reconize celeron 533

well, I took a look at the manual [motherboards.org] and it's supposed to read Pentium II Pentium III's & Celeron's 500 mhz and faster. So question is, just what does the mainboard see if anything at all? SW2 & SW3 jumpers are used to "overclock" the FSB frequency ][100mhz and 133mhz] and the default is to autodetect. the Core/Bus ratio set at 3.5 on a 66mhz core clock speed equates to 233mhz [66mhzX3.5=233]. Changing the core bus speed to 133mhz with a Core/bus ratio of 3.5 equates to a 465.5mhz. [133mhzX3.5=465.5]Changing the Core/Bus ratio to 4.0 on a 133mhz core bus speed equates to 532 mhz. [133mhzX4.0=532mhz]. Again, what does the board say when SW2 and SW# are configured for autodetect?

Note: Chapter 3, 3.10 explains how to setup the BIOS table for "CPU PNP" and adjusting core voltage, cpu speed, ratio, and frequency. Check to make sure your settings are correct.

Celeron CPUs with clock speeds below 850MHz are all 66MHz FSB processors.

So, the multiplier would need to be 8X.

If the BIOS does not support an 8X multiplier, that may be the problem.

Also, not all motherboards will work well with the socket 370 to slot 1 adapters.

You can get used PII slot 1 CPUs for $50 or less.
A PII will outperform the Celeron, as it has more On-Chip Cache RAM.
Plus, the PII can be clocked at 100MHz, so your RAM can also be clocked at 100MHz.

COULD IT BE THAT THE BOARD DOESN'T SUPPORT THE CARD.I DID TEST THIS IN ANOTHER BOARD AND IT FIRED UP FINE.I KNOW THE CARD ONLY SUPPORTS UP TO 1.85 V-CORE,BUT THE CARD IS SET TO AUTOMATICLY DETECT.
