Multimedia Failure

My system config is Celeron 600 MHz. It is working correcly. Once i install MSDN, after that it lost the sound capability. That means i can hear the sound ( audio ) alone. But when combined with video only video appears but sound disappears. Um aPC Tech. When re-install Win 98,
an error occurs, that is Error loading mmsys.dll
Multimedia icon in control panel vanished. Help?

Go to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs and try to install all multimedia functions including codecs, etc. from there. If that doesn't work, uninstall your sound card and reinstall.

Also, make sure you have all Win98 updates and updated mobo, video, and sound card drivers

Just for the satisfaction of knowing your system is clean, run an up-to-date thorough virus scan then........

Your hard drive may be damaged; I suggest performing a thorough scandisk with the option to fix all errors. Do a "dirty" reinstall of Win98. If problem persists, format the drive followed by a clean install of Win98. Additionally, try a known-good Win98 CD for install.
