My Computer Corrupt

By megasurfer ·
When I open My Computer, all of the menus, back and forward arrows, etc. are missing, all I have is a window with files and folders listed. One minute it was working fine, the next minute this. Very hard to navigate. Is this caused by some kind of file corruption, and if so, how do I fix it?

If neither of the above helps, you need to post which OS you use.

Sounds like you have just closed the toolbars. This is simple enough to remedy.
In My Computer click on the following options from the menu bar:
"View" "Toolbars" "Standard Buttons"
"View" "Toolbars" "Address Bar"
OR
Hold down the"ALT" key andpress the following keys in order V T S
then with Alt held down again press V T A
and that should replace all your navigation buttons etc :)

You didn't bother to mention what OS you're running, so I will assume you're running XP.
Why don't you just RESTORE the PC to previous known good configuration?

Using win2000 pro. It has something to do with the profile. If I sign on as administrator it is fine. Coppied over profile, and it fixed it. Such a hassle though. Now it has done it again. Seems to have something to do with Easy CD Creator. Was using it when this happend both times.

Before you reject my answer make sure reinstalling the operating sytem is not the last resort. You are going to need to re-install the operating system or re-apply a service pack.

Even though you stated that you are a "computer tech" have you considered a virus? I'm not an expert, just giving you ideas, sounds like you have tried most everything else.
