My Ethernet port failed to connect with the router

by thehoangs . Updated 19 years ago

Hello,
Last week, after a storm, my desktop computer failed to connect to the internet via the router. I checked, and the DSL modem, SMC Router and the cables were all working (I plugged another computer in and everything worked). It appeared that the problem was now at my desktop computer. Device Manager reported that the Ethernet adaptor was functioning properly and yet I could not connect to the router (via port 192.168.2.1). Can anyone help with this? is it a hardware or software configuration problem?
Should I get a wireless USB device to get around this?

My computer: HP Pavilion a600n, Windows Home XP/SP2
Thank you.
