my ibm pc can't boot into cd-rom

i'm receiving "read error occured press contrl.alt del to restart"??it failed to boot into cd-rom im trying to install win xp OS,wished someone could helped me to fix this problem thanks a lot...

You need to set the Boot Order to Boot from the Optical Drive Before the HDD so that the system can read the Optical Drive. If you do not do this the system will continue to see the Formatted HDD and fall over at that point.

When you enter the BIOS and change the Boot Order you need to save the Changes as you exit the BIOS so that they are remembered.

If you have already made this change your only option is then to replace the Optical Drive or check the Install Media as it's faulty.
