    my imac isn’t booting up

    an error comes up on the start up screen “The system software on the start up disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive” then they say press restart and that iall it does, can anyone direct me how to bypass this problem

      Sounds like the Mac OS files were copied (drag / Drop) from the CD to the HD.

      restart the Mac with OS CD in the drive and hold down the “C” button to boot from CD… and do an actual INSTALL for the OS.

      Ok guy, you have to do an o/s restore. Insert the o/s restore cd, follow the steps, choose the option restore in place and thats all.

      A system folder from a bootable cd was drag copied to the hard drive.

      You will need to boot from an OS disk and reinstall the operating system.
