My Laptop is dead and........

By befnme ·
While I am awaiting a new mobo for my laptop, I would like to know if there is a way to connect to my cisco 1900 switch via desktop nic to login and continue to work?

You mean, connect a working computer to the switch?

Yeah, why not?

Unless it is a corporate network that will only let pre-approved machines on. Logging in to a network would be a problem then. So, you'd talk to the IT dept.

It is my home network

I am studying for the CCNA and I have a home lab setup. I tried a straight through cable which should have worked because it is not 2 like devices. It did not work because when I brought up my telnet and tried the default it could not find anything. I then tried still nothing. I am a little lost now. I have this connected from the ethernet port on my desktop pc to the console port on my switch.

Now that we have all the information...

To communicate with your switch through the console port, you probably need a crossover cable. And I don't know that you'll be able to browse and navigate the network from that port.

Why can't you connect directly to one of the standard switch ports?
