my laptop (wirelessly connected) couldn't join domain win 2003 server

By niriku ·
When I try to join my laptop in domain in win 2003 sp2 it shows this error :

'The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:
. (the root zone)'

Also when I do nslookup in win 2003 it shows ISP provider name and IP address.

Could anyone let me know how to solve this ? thanks

When you attempted to join the domain did you use the fully qualified domain name or just the short NetBIOS name?

If it was the short name, you need to make sure you correctly specified the WINS servers.

If it was the FQDN and it is Vista, see the Microsoft article at

Join domain

Yes I think it is FQDN. This laptop is not vista instead win xp sp2.
The PC where I have installed win 2003 xp2 is connected to a wireless modem/router/4-port switch. My laptop is wirelessly connected to network. Still it shows the same error when I try to join in domain.

when I check DNS config and nslookup it shows my ISP server name and DNS IP. So I don't know whether something is wrong there.
sorry if my explanation is not clear.
