Net wating/Modem on hold using v.90

By richardwaddy ·
Am using our only phone for a lot of online use.

Trying to find a way to know that there is an incoming call on a land line while I'm online.

I understand that v.92 modems solve this problem. But in the UK most ISPs don't use v.92 yet. Also Ihave a v.90 modem in my laptop.

Have a Call Wating signal being supplied by BT (British Telecom). Have heard that this will disconnect some modems when an incoming call is being attempted. But I've tried two different modems and they are not disconnected.

Any solution will do
- Cause the modem to be disconnected
- Get the PC to 'see' the incoming call (i.e. See the Call Wating signal)
- Put something else on the telephone line that will see the Call Waiting signal while a modem is on the line
- etc?

Net wating/Modem on hold using v.90

Thanks. I contacted Emerson in the US (www.switchboardhelp.com/index.html). They did not seem very responsive or helpful. From another phone call to www.cpscom.com I discovered that the USA call waiting signal is different to the UK one. cps producea solution that works in USA, New Zealand and Ireland but not UK or Australia.

Net wating/Modem on hold using v.90

When a call comes through with call waiting enabled, the modem hangs up, because of the strange signal... this happens like after 1 minute of ringing, software will notice that it is disconnected :-D

So what you do, you plug another fone to the same line, when a call comes... it would ring... and you can talk then and internet would be cut.

Cheers

As far as I understand only fairly old modems are troubled by the call waiting signal. Even on my laptop from 1999/2000(?) it does not notice the call waiting signal.
