Netgear DG834G Wireless Router Connection prob

by zack taylor . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

Well, at home my Netgear DG834G Wireless Router seems to be playing up. It couldn’t detect any networks and despite the usual solution of selecting “repair” or restarting my PC it still wasn’t having it.

I thought it might be a conflict between the netgear software and the windows wireless options both trying to connect, so I prioritised the windows one by removing the shortcut to the netgear options and restarting (so I can still access it via the programs menu, but windows now finds its own wireless setup first).

This made all available networks detectable, though I still can’t seem to connect to my network even though I’m certain I’m typing my network key correctly. Now when I start up it tells me it can’t connect to the preferred network.

In addition, my parent’s PC (the one with the router directly connected to it) can access the internet fine. So it seems I’m just having a problem connecting to the network itself through my dongle.

I’d rather manage to solve this without taking th eultimate action and formatting the blasted PC and starting from scratch! So any ideas or solutions??
