NetWare 5.0 - Purge function

By Q2Ggirl ·
I am having a problem with entire directories being deleted. And when I use FILER to see who the responsible person is, it's empty. Where can I find a purge log?

Please no comments about using Delete Inhibited. The damage has already been done.

Go to :

http://www.jrbsoftware.com/06utils/salvlist.htm

It will do what you want.

Thanks, but I wanted a quicker solution. $400-$500 is a lot just for a log file.

Sorry, unless you load the auditcon you won't find a log of deleted directories or files. Auditcon is cumbersome but might do the trick.
as you are probably aware, you won't find anything for NW50 but NW51 should be fairly similal. The documentation is at:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?H30F218F8
Or you can just search for auditcon at the Novell knowledgebase, you will find tons of info.

PS, we use DSmeter and is even more expensive that the previous suggestion. But a lot leaner and easier that auditcon.

Are you sure a user hasn't just dragged the folder somewhere. WEverytime one of my users says they cannot find a folder, I ask for a file name or other locator, do a search and find it was moved somewhere. Try that out first.
good luck,

Purge is not the same as deleted. When a file is deleted it is still there SYS:deleted.sav\ until purged. Do you have users knowledgeable enough to purge?
Are you doing regular backups from which you can restore directories?
