NetWare 5.1 Cluster

By theophinteles ·
Hi,
I am building a 2 Node cluster of NetWare 5.1 with NCS 1.01 and cluster support pack 4 on an IP only network.

I require to assign an IP to the cluster which I am unable to do during the installation of NCS.Any help on the same would be greatly appreciated

Rgds,
Theophin

For documentation on how to do it see the link below.

If all the hardware isn't in place you won't be able to assign the IP address to the cluster object. I suggest you read it thoroughly. I have worked with 5.0 (horrible) and 6.0 clusters(much better) A 2 node cluster is a bad idea. If the master fails, you lose the cluster, because of the voting process in the split brain detector. Try it yourself once you get it working. Unplug the LAN cable from the Master node in the cluster. It won't failover to the slave. Instead the master goes down and sends a poison pill to the slave and kills it so you lose all. Better to have three nodes.

Hi,
As per ur suggestion all the hardware has to be in place. In this scenario I have HP DL360G2 servers to build the cluster.Although I am able to enable to volumes as cluster volumes and assign IP to them I am still unable to assign IP to the cluster object.

Abt the 2 Node cluster I have to further upgrade it upto 12 Node.Hope this gives u an idea about the exact situation.Any suggestions would be helpful
