Network access for privately owned computers

By ashleyt ·
I manage a small network of approximately 120 computers shared by about 150 users. We have an IT policy that governs the use of e-mail, software installation, internet browing and other acceptable business use, but I am encountering a big push from the sales force for something that is not currently covered.

Specifically, they want to bring in their personally owned laptops or desktops to use on our corporate network.

I know this is not good practice, and have explained this to my boss, but he wants me to provide some written justification for not allowing these privately owned devices to travel outside our firewall and security, and then be brought back in.

Does anybody have a written policy regarding this specific issue that you would not mind sharing? Or does anybody have links to articles that address allowing privately owned computers inside a corporate network?

Thank you in advance.
