Network card nightmare

by sherry_stuart . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

Hi there,

I am at a complete standstill on this one. I have a HP 533mhz computer with a Realtech PCI NIC card installed to run my Shaw cable. I recently bought a new computer and a hub and would like to network them.

I have tried to install two different network cards (both new, and with assistance from tech support — they don’t get it either) several times and keep having major computer problems. Once the card is installed and I reboot, I can no longer run programs from the desktopor start menu, go online or anything else. When I double-click on programs nothing happens. I can’t access anything other than “my computer”. Thank goodness I have Roxio’s “Go Back” program so I can revert back and try it again fresh each time.

The installation and driver set-up appears to go smoothly except for one thing. A box pops up that says the installation is trying to replace my “telnet.exe” file and that the version previously installed on the computer is newer and prompts if I want to replace it, I have tried saying yes and no on different attempts.

Is it that a person can’t have two NIC cards installed, and if so how do you run the cable service without using a router if you just want to use a hub to connect them. Please help.
