network design

by sayal4 . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

Currently we have a network of around 100 pc’s. We have a main data center where switches are installed and cables are running from data center to concern departments. In few depts one cable is running from data center and hooked up in a switch further connections are made thru that switch.
Now an authority wants to remove the junk of cables and switches from data center and installing a switch in concern dept and further giving connections.
Remember that most of the clients use database application.
1. Now my question is, is it good idea to distribute the network by doing that??
2. Will it cause bottleneck since the data will be traveling over one cable (switch to switch).

An expert opinion is required in this matter please suggest. Also is there any article, whitepaper or guide about designing a network.

Thanks in advance
