I have a Windows SBS 2003 Server setup to run a domain i have setup in an office with Windows XP Pro clients.
However, when the client laptops connect in remotely, they cannot get access immediately to the network drives – error switches between asking for username / password (i.e. it won’t used the cahced domain username / password), or a message:
“H:\ is not accessible – windows has detected a possible attempt to compromise system security. Please check your authenticating server is available and try again”.
HOWEVER, if you then go to “My Network Places” and double click on the “Microsoft Windows Network”, after a slight delay it displays the domain.
If you THEN try to connect to network drives – they work!!!!
It’s driving me insane. Why do they not connect first, until the network is “browsed”???
Within the office, all clients etc connect fine, and all shares from the server are fully accessible on all machines, where a logon script maps them automatically. All machines are Windows XP Pro SP2.
Any help would be appreciated. Remote access is via VPN tunnel to a Draytek Router. I don’t think the problem is here….
