i need to setup something similar to a server where computers can exchange files and save on a computer remotely i also need to have it setup with users being able to log in with their files on different computers in the office

what should i do? i have windows xp and windows 2000, i need to have the user computers with windows xp could i use xp to make a server or could/should i move to another os for what i want to be the main computer with all the files

Depends on what is involved here

XP Pro has a upper limit of Concurrent connections of 10 connections so if you need more than 10 Concur net Connections you'll need a Server OS of some sought.

However if there is not a need for more than 10 Concurrent Connections at any one Time and you can be sure that your Server will release ended connections XP would be sufficient for your needs.

You can make windows xp as server.
but i believe its supports upto 10 hosts.
But if u have more than 10 users, u should
use windows 2000.
