Network Monitoring Tools

Since network environment in my company getting complex and difficult to monitor (network performance, diagnostics). My question is whether there is any Network Monitoring tools that is available (prefer freeware)in IT World.

have you checked out NetMon and other free tools from microsoft? sometimes you can download them sometimes they come with server installation cd's and resource kit cd's. what is your network configuration?

We use whatupgold, great for monitoring and it has a good discovery tool (snmp as well) and alert system. For freeware/unix go to, you can find pretty good projects like 'Just For Fun Network Management System'

HP Open View, Whatsup Gold, MRTG, BMC Patrol if you're looking for network monitoring software. If you re looking for network sniffers, Network Monitor (MS), Ethereal, Network Instruments Observer etc. Lots of them... what exactly are you looking for?

Try using OpManager / OpUtils available from AdventNet. Both are excellent toolsets customized for your kind of problem. You wont get a more apt toolsuite for your need. the versions are free for trial usage. Do visit the website to learn more:

You could try EMCO Network inventory:

(Not Freeware)
But it allows you do do custom scans and filtering of information. I have found it to be very useful in keeping track of people's machines.
