Network (Peer) WinXP Pro & win 2000

By csdrew ·
I am trying to network my Win XP Pro and my Win 2000 and am having no luck. I use a dialup modem and 2 printers on the XP computer. I want to be able to use myprinters from the 2000 computer. Any information would be helpful.

Check settings and SAP

by Deadly Ernest In reply to Network (Peer) WinXP Pro ...

Check the network settings on both systems, including the interface card properties and tcp/ip properties. Then do as I mentioned for another discussion, activate SAP in the services.
Prior comments stated below.

I have come across this problem a number of times, the most common resolution has been to use the 'Computer Management' console, 'Services' section to turn on the 'SAP' Service Advertising Protocol. Then share something on the computer.

For some reason some XP installations will turn this on automatically, others will not. usually a machine with this turned on can be seen by and MS Win o/s after Win 3.11.

If this does fail check to make sure that all machines have the same domain or group name and are using the same protocol settings.
