You could try installing a WINS server and registering the printers and the plotter there.

Try this:

Install drivers at local machines as LOCAL PRINTER.
And then change port to //Computer/LPTx port.

check the temp folder of the PC's if they are the same two everday. Also check the windows\spool\printers folder. There shouldn't be anything in there. Also make sure they have enough memory. I had this problem with some win9x workstations before because they were running less than 64 mb of memory.
Also make sure virtual memory is configured right and there is more than 50mb of free hard drive space for the page file.
Hope I helped

1) a printer server (2 parallel & 1 serial) cost Singapore Dollar S$260/- OR US$150, save yourself headaches !!

2) switch to another fast computer to function as print server

Domain or Workgroup?
Printers installed as stand alone or shared?

Setup printer using tcp/ip and to make things easier, so you don't have to run to each printer(I don't know how your network is set) everytime you make a change (even though it'sa small network) install jetadmin (download from hp).
