Network printer keeps disconnecting

By dunntoon ·
I am running a Windows 2003 Server running 20 machines running Windows XP SP2. One of these machines has a printer attached to it which has been setup for printer sharing.

This machine is left on at all times so that users dont have to worry about the machine being on before they boot their machines up.

Randomly one of the users will lose connection to this printer and you have reconnect the user to the printer by start, run, \\'Computer Name' and typing in the username and password that is available in the server's active directory that is not being used as it does not let you re-enter to user you are logged onto.

Any Suggestions?

I would suggest getting on of these nifty Parallel to RJ45 converters if it is a Parallel only printer.

If not, connect it directly to your network and give it a static IP through your dhcp server.

Set the computer that the printer is connected to a static IP.
