networking through 2 routers

By it_123456 ·
i have 2 routers. one is a modem/wired router by netcomm and the other is a Dlink wireless router. i have wired one connected to the wireless which gives the wireless computers internet but since i have connected my computer to the wireless network i havn't been able to network to the computers connected to the netcomm router. does anybody know how i can connect the computers together through the 2 routers?

Im pretty sure this would work.

You have the wired router, and then connecting from the WAN port of your wireless, plug that into any spare port that you have on your Wired Router, (not the WAN).

Then you can still connect wired PC's into the wired router, and connect to the internet through the wireless, which then goes through the wired, and then that goes through to your internet connection.

Hope that helps.

Since your using consumer level routers, they come with built in firewalls which are on by default. you would turn off the firewall on the wired router which is connected to the DLink Wireless [which connects to the internet].

With the firewall off you should be able to access computers on the subnet by typing in the UNC from the run box.

the documentation that came with your routers provides you with directions on how to access it so you can configure it.

Don't use the wireless AP as a router. Don't plug anything into the WAN port on it. Disable DHCP on it. Just connect it to the other router as a switch, extending that network, all on the same subnet.
