Is the drive physically installed in the PC and setup in the system BIOS. It would have helped if you'd given info on drive size and what version of Windows you intend to install.

There is software like EZ drive and partition magic that automates the task but it's really not hard.

My instruction here is for a single C: drive. Using win98.

You'll need a bootable floppy disk. To create the disk go to control panel select add remove programs select "STARTUP DISK" coninue as prompted. Boot the computer using the startup disk. The sequence is to partition then format the drive.

From A> type the following set of commands hit the enter key after each command. Commands are in caps.

1. FDISK
select the first choice, use the max size or 100%follow the prompts until requested to reboot.

2. Boot to the floppy again type in

FORMAT C: /S
When the format is complete it will ask you to name the drive.

Boot the computer without the disk then install operating system.
Your done.

thanks. that process is win 9x? good steps. i just want to ad that on w2k, i could just copy and create boot disk from w2k software, its about 5 disk and when u reboot, the system would automatically set it up for you. it fomats right away and partitioned it. its about 30 mins plus couple of question in partition part but everything else seems great. i'll try your steps when i get a new drive. thanks for sharing thoughts.
