    New Network Setup Question

    Locked

    by exqotile ·

Looking to setup a network for a company with two offices of about 10pcs each running off of T1s, and about a dozen smaller offices of 2-6 PCs running off of DSL or Cable Modems. In total there are currently about 65 PCs in the company.

I’m considering an AD/Exchange environment but most of the users would need to connect up through a VPN. Would a single File/Email server in one of the main locations be sufficient, or would things run too slowly for the users VPNing in?

I certainly couldn’t justify a server at each location, but need to get an idea of what I’d require.

If a single server is a viable option, I was considering Microsoft SBS 2003, although we’d be coming a bit close to the CAL cap.

I’d appreciate any input anyone can give me.

I think a lot of that might depend on how much file space and traffic the company is going to generate through the server. If the firm’s database is going to be large, you might be pushing it.

IMO you’d be asking a lot of one server, but that does not mean it can’t be done.
