New PC with XP need to add to domain

By b_p2001 ·
OK, I am able to map to network drives, but not able to be on domain. Says username conflict. I know there is a configuration in Control Panel which corrects this, I think it's a display issue, anyway, I would like to add this PC to the domain and need to know that configuration, can somebody help?. Thank you

pc into domain

by SypherSoul(sp) In reply to New PC with XP need to ad ...

First check and make sure you have xp professional.
next right click my computer, click on the computer name tab, select change, select more, you should see primary dns suffix and a text box; now type in the domain name. It should ask to restart click ok and that should enable you to log into your domain.

Check to make sure that the computer object isn't already in AD

by Why Me Worry? In reply to Done that

It may sound farfetched, but I have seen some pretty stupid things done when PCs' are imaged and someone forgets to change the computer name and tries to add multiple machines with the same name to the domain. If you have confirmed that your DNS suffix and DNS server entires are correct on your XP machine, then check the existence of the computer object in AD. If it is there, delete the object and wait a few minuutes for the change to replicate. Then, try joining the machine back into the domain.

Change the computer name, reboot, log in as an admin, and add the computer to the domain.

I've already done these things. It's not liking to connect still. I tried to set a network connection for small business and still nothing. Can I undo the network for small business and go back to original config?

One thing else

I had changed the local administrator password prior to trying to change to the doamin. Would this cause me to not be able to join the domain? I am not able to map the network drive, sorry that I mentioned that I could.

I turned off the automatic Firewall and then it started OK. Thanks for your suggestions.
