No mouse

By steve.doig ·
I have a mouse not working after I replaced
the motherboard. Under system properties,
the mouse is "either not present, not
working, or the drivers are not all
installed. Reinstalling the drivers doesn't
seem to work. I have tried using a working
ISA serial port card. Should I reinstall
windows?

did you check for a device conflict? I would do that first, ie, the addressing of the driver. Second, verify the driver your using..& the version of windows..ie, do you have the most current version..if your not on 98 second release, is the driver actually supported pnp? Next, remove all references to the mouse from the system.. then reboot..see if it creates them back..if it does your seeing the mouse, just need the right driver. If not, then check the connection. However, it sounds like yourchecked the HD side of this already, I would for good measure re-install windows if the things I said above don't lead you to the issue. However, as I said, I would first verify that it's not an addressing conflict
If none of this works, Boot to the bios, disable ALL references to the mouse, & install your card (if it's in right now take it out before you do what I said above), then reboot & you should find the mouse. Also may be just as simple to use a serial port converter for the mouse if your on a 9x system.

Open the control panel, clck the add new hardware and select the option to choose from list and donot let the system detect and search for mouse, then from list choose mouse type and install the mouse manually.Reboot the system.
You can also use the Help from start to trouble shoot the mouse problem. Hope this helps
