NO ROM BASIC

By Melissa ·
A friend of mine owns a 1994 American Megabyte PC. When it starts to boot up, the error appears "NO ROM BASIC - SYSTEM HALTED". I cannot access the hard drive to view the stored contents. I cannot save any changes in set-up. Any ideas on how I can repair this?

Was it working ok up till now? Did you install a new hard drive in it?

The most common cause is the lack of an active partition on the disk. You would need to boot from a floppy and run fdisk to see if there is an active partition. If there isn't, you'll have to set the primary partition to active.

If there is an active partition already, then the motherboard and/or BIOS may have failed.
