No sound after Installing Win2K Pro

    Locked

    by fathom ·

After installing Windows 2000 Pro on my system I no longer have sound. Clean install or upgrade…same results. I have downloaded and installed win2k drivers for my soundcard from both Gateway and creative to no avail. Within device manager under sounds it shows my sound card (Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128D (WDM) and that’s all that’s in there. In other devices I have a PCI Device with a conflict; which is my soundcard. I have already tried uninstalling everything under “sounds” in device manger and tried to reinstall. Still nothing. If I remove the PCI conflict and restart my computer, new hardware found will pop up. If I use the sound card driver for it, I will have two identical soundcard names under “sounds” in device manager but still no sound. I’m running a 900Mhz Gateway computer. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I would try 2 additional steps.
1 on the pci device I would r-klick and disable it.
2 contact gateway and or creativelabs.

Did you try removing both pci and soundcard, do a scan for new harware and use the w2k drivers for the soundcard ?
You should receive only 1 device then

I disabled the pci device. Nothing different. I contacted gateway and creativelabs. Gateway said:

Aaron, please note that we do not support retail versions of Operating Systems. You need to contact Microsoft directly. I understand that you have support questions regarding the Microsoft Windows 2000 Retail Upgrade Version. If you purchased the software from Gateway Add-On Sales or at our Accessory Store at http://www.Gateway.com, Microsoft will fully support this software.

Creative labs just gave me a driver which didn’t do anything. Microsoft just said to switch from “autosense” to “digital”, which didn’t do anything. I removed both the pci and soundcard; did a scan for new hardware and used the w2k drivers to no avail.

Take a look at my google search.

      http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Creative+Sound+Blaster+AudioPCI+128D%22

(1 line of course, in case it wont work its a search on “Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128D” (with the qoutations)

also happens in xp, they are saying to run a .exe and in the On the Settings tab, in the Output Mode list, click Digital, and then click OK.
