    No sound coming thru…

    Locked

    by mfh ·

My boss’s pc quit making sound. There is a sound card that used to work – PCI Multimedia Audio Device. Its resources shows IRQ 4 (no conflicts) but the Memory Range shows “used by System board ext. for PnP BIOS” and shows that there is no driver installed.
Can I reset the Memory Range only? Other suggestions? Thanks

If no driver is installed, a software install or update disabled the driver.

Identify the specific sound card, download and install the specific driver for the card.

If the sound is built into the motherboard, you need to get the driver from the system or motherboard mfg.

Got a microphone? See if it records. If so, the card may have a blown driver sage.

No joy, remove drivers, and reinstall.

If success is not achieved, try to get a test/diagnostic program. Was there a real mode driver, that was disabled/removed?

Check CMOS PCI Interrupt DMA and bus master settings for conflict with sound card user recommendations.

Try swapping it with a known good unit, to ascertain weather the card is dead.
