No wireless connection icon

By johncook57 ·
hi I am trying to set up a Wireless connection to my LAN network but can not seem to set the DG834 modem / Router as the wireless access point. System is desktop PC with RealTek RTL 8139 fast ethernet PCI adaptor running the network with two PC's wired to the hub. Both PC's and the desktop can connect to the Internet OK, running Win XP Pro on desktop and Win 98 on two connected PCs network runs ok. Bought the DG834gt to use as a wireless access point to run a Lexmark 6500 wireless printer but have not been successful in connecting.
Have set the Dg834 to 192.168.0.1 and can ping from CMD OK, ping DNS SERVER AT 192.168.0.2 ok. have set up SSID in dg834 but can not pick up the connection from printer or a known working laptop. The thing that I can not see is a wireless connection icon in my network places and/or Control panel. Have trawled the net for some clue but all seem to state that the wireless connection icon should always be there Any help would be appreciated have not got a lot of hair left to tear out!
