Novell 5 - New Installation

By jcolome ·
Hello Folks, here is what may seem like a stupid question. I have installed Netware 5 on a box and everything seems fine from the server point of view but I can't or don't know how to connect to Netware from a workstation?? I've installed the client on the workstation and I only get a prompt to connect to my NT server. Anyone know where I can go to get detailed step by step installation instructions on connecting to Novell server? I am new at Netware and don't know all the details. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!!!

Juan you should have a cd that is labeled Client. You should load that and install the client that is appropriate to your client machine. Then set your login for the correct tree and server. You should be set.

I would first check all cabling and make sure the Novell client is installed on the workstation. I believe a default install will install TCP/IP only. I would try to ping the server from the workstation. If you can ping the server, you could try entering the server's IP address instead of the server name in the login box, this could overcome some potential router problems. If the server is running IPX, try changing the IPX frame type at the workstation to match the server instead of using auto-detect. To find out network stats on the server, type CONFIG and hit enter to display your installed NICs and protocol information.

Right-click on Network Neighborhood, check that your primary network logon points to Novell Netware client. Do you have a large red 'N' in your system tray? If so, right-click, select Novell client32 properties and make sure you have configured the tree, context and server info correctly (you would have been asked to define this info during NW5 install). If not, re-install client.

If the cabling is ok then check this. Go into Network Properties (right click on Network Neighborhood and select properties) and make sure that the Novell client is the Primary Network Log in.

As others said, make sure that you have set Novell as the primary login. A couple of other things to check...If you go to Network Neighborhood can you see your Novell server? Also check and make sure that frame types match between the server and workstation. If you can see your NT server, then you probably have the speed and duplex set correctly on your workstation. If IP is loaded on your workstation and the server, trying 'pingin' each other to see if there is connectivity.
