NT File Server corrupting Excel Files, Users on XP Workstations

by jonathan.meighan . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

Hi

I have a Windows NT 4 File Server. I have recently installed new XP SP2 Workstations Since the upgrade, the users have been having trouble corrupting Excel workbooks.

The Excel worksheets are set to be “Shared” (Excel setting More than 1 user can Open and Edit at the same time). Firstly the Excel files lock open (even though the user has closed it) after the lock has been closed on the server the next time they attempt to open the file: The file corrupts and can not be retrieved. On some occations the Excel temperary file is saved in the directory and this can be retrieved.

The Issue has only started since the new work stations have been installed, they were previosly running NT workstations and the Issue seems to be only with EXCEL files.

The Users have full access to the directory that contain the files

Any help would be very much appreciated

Jonathan
