I have a native AD domain with 2 DCs – 1 Dc is Win 2K and the other is Win2003.I also have 2 NT4.0 SP6a servers for specific older type applications (eg. DYNIX)
Regularly but not always the NT4 servers fail to authenicate the administrator and other users with the following message “system can not log you on to the domain because the systems computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect”
On some occasions if I wait up to 2 hours it will cooperate and log in without any change to settings on any server.
I have also tried to remove these servers from the domain, remove the computer account from the domain and then add the server again. Sometimes this will work but not always.
I have also tried in a last ditch attempt to disconnect the network cable from the Win 2003 DC to force the NT 4.0 server to use the Win 2k server for authentication but that failed to solve the problem as well.
All articles on the web that i have seen so far have identifed a similar problem but none of the solutions offered have worked.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may help me with this very frustrating problem.
Many thanks for any help provided
