Odd mouse behavior in XP
LockedI am running windows xp 64bit w/ sp2. My USB mouse has been fine since I installed xp a few months ago. But yesterday, all of a sudden it just started moving funny. I figured out it actually covers more ground when I move it left and upwards than when I move it right and downwards. In other words if I move the mouse evenly from left to right over and over again it actually eventually ends up on the left side of the screen. I messed around with my mouse properties in the control panel to see if I could alleviate the situation. I noticed that if I have the “Enhance pointer precision” ON then it helps the problem from being so drastic, but the disparity in movement is still there. I have a lot of applications installed on my computer and a fair amount of hardware as well. I am certainly no novice with diagnosing and fixing computers, but I cannot find any information on the internet that related to this issue. I uninstalled all the applications that I had installed in the past week. I unplugged all of my usb devices except for my mouse. I cleaned the registry. I uninstalled any drivers that were associated to any of my usb devices (like my Wacom tablet). I have rebooted numerous times (from cold). My mouse is a wireless logitech USB mouse. However I unplugged it and plugged in in an older usb mouse, and have the same exact problems. I booted into safe mode; same problem. I booted into a previous installation of xp (32 bit), and had NO problems. I feel like somehow, something in windows got corrupt or reconfigured and its now telling the mouse to track differently. I tried finding information about mouse settings in the registry, but could find no information about assigning different track rates to particular directions of movement. Any one have any suggestions?? I am trying to avoid having to reinstall windows and all of my apps (and then possibly run into this problem again one day)
