Odd nbtstat output

by mike . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

I have noticed that some of my computer systems have an extra line in the output from NBTSTAT. Below is the output I am talking about.

Network Bridge:
Node IpAddress: [10.90.123.126] Scope Id: []

NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

Name Type Status
———————————————
SERVER <00> UNIQUE Registered
SERVER <20> UNIQUE Registered
INSTRUCTORS <00> GROUP Registered
INSTRUCTORS <1C> GROUP Registered
INSTRUCTORS <1B> UNIQUE Registered
SERVER <03> UNIQUE Registered
INSTRUCTORS <1E> GROUP Registered
SERVER$ <03> UNIQUE Registered
ADMINISTRATOR <03> UNIQUE Registered
INSTRUCTORS <1D> UNIQUE Registered
INet~Services <1C> GROUP Registered
..__MSBROWSE__.<01> GROUP Registered
IS~SERVER……<00> UNIQUE Registered

MAC Address = 00-02-B3-B2-F7-44

As seen above the name of the box is SERVER and it is in the INSTRUCTORS domain, the user Administrator is logged in as seen from the <03> UNIQUE. The system is running the messenger service from the “Server<03>Unique”, but what is the second <03>Unique indicate, the one with the name “Server$<03>Unique” That is throwing me for a loop here.

Mike.
