OfficeXP - Excel

By ajayagarwal22 ·
I have approx. 50 workbooks in Microsoft Excel - OfficeXP which are Password protected and the password is same for all workbooks. Suddenly, I am unable to any workbook as it says password incorrect. I checked everything like Caps lock etc. but unable to open any of the workbook. All the files contain very important Data and I don't have any back-up of these files. Could you advise what is the reason and how to acess the data.

OfficeXP - Excel

Good Luck!! First, once you recover the data, quit password protecting the files. Use removable media or a network shared folder that is backed up and ask the network administrator to restrict the folder access to your userid.

If you're password includes numbers make sure your number lock is on.

To extract the data, try these three things in order: copy the files and rename them so you can attempt to alter them.

1. if you have MSWorks, to alter them, go to Windows Explorer and change the file extension of the file name to the extension MSWorks uses for spreadsheets and try to open the document from MSWorks.
2. change the file extension of the file name to .txt This will allow you access the data from Notepad or Wordpad but will absolutely destroy any formatting and special fonts etc. This will simply get you your very important data back so you can place it back into an Excel document.
3. Use a copy of the file with the original extension, open it using Word. You will have to copy and paste your information into a new speadsheet and rebuild your formatting.
