Okay here is a theo-political Question

By MallardtooXX ·
First off yes I made up Theo-political....shoot me =) My question is simple and I am sure you guys will tear though it relatively quickly. What do you think would happen if NASA found Bones on mars? Is this the type of things that would tear up humanity? Would this cause governments to fall and religion to be cast aside? Furthermore what if the bones they found were human and pre-dated our current civilization by say 2 million years? What do you think would happen? Where would this take the Tech sector? and how would you deal with it? I am genuinely curious about this one.

Figures you'd have the good question

by Oz_Media In reply to Okay here is a theo-polit ...

Theo-political, yes that would work for your theory.

Bones on Mars you say, well, I would be happy as **** to hear that the billions were paying off in discovery. I would LOVE to see what we learned from there, it would be truly fascinating.

Religion? Well, they would probably rewrite the bible AGAIN, and back up a bit in time to include God's FIRST creation, he created the univers not just the Earth and so it would fit well. If they were just bones then one could assume that God had created a world that turned to sin, all these people that once lived on "Mars the happy planet", would then have been cast into eternal doom with the creation of "Mars the fiery and uninhabitable planet."

Either way, even if they found PROOF of the origin of the universe in some little bag that said "Instant Universe Just Add Water", they would still attribute it to an act of God.

Once you believe with such conviction, anything can be explained to FIT your beliefs.

Not that it is wrong or right, just that it is not something that ANY form of truth or proof wil change.

Religion - Politics - Technology - Military

by maxwell edison In reply to Okay here is a theo-polit ...

.
Religion:
Religions would not be affected at all. The belief in God, or the lack thereof, would remain about the same. The "earth" could certainly be considered a metaphor when put in the context of "the Word of God".

Politics:
I think that the discovery of evidence of life outside our little Earth, especially in humanoid form, would change the geo-political climate dramatically. Speculation would run amok, and self-defense would be seen in a whole new light. New alliances would be formed, and common goals would be more clearly defined. It would be much more obvious that we, on the Earth, are all in this together.

Technology:
Technology would grow exponentially. The answer to the question, "Where did the bones come from, and how did they get there?" would be driving force behind almost everything we did. Enrolment in "the sciences" at colleges would be among the fastest growing fields.

Military:
I think a discovery such as that would be the impetus behind the creation of some sort of multi-national "space command". Monitoring for "incomings" would be given a whole new meaning. One might surmise that if we made such a discovery, that "someone else" might know about it.

Overall:
It would certainly change the way we think of ourselves. Life on Earth would never quite be the same.

Some thoughts ...

by jardinier In reply to Okay here is a theo-polit ...

Firstly, it's great to have you back again, Duck. One of the first discussions I encountered after joining TR was your "Why?" which I think may have been before the actual invasion of Iraq. It attracted some 150 posts. Nowadays some discussions are passing the 300 post mark.

Religion: I have always considered it a statistical absurdity to imagine the Christian/Bible-based idea that earth is the only inhabited planet in the trillions of solar systems in the universe and that humans are the only "intelligent" life form.

I imagine fundamentalist Christians, who believe every word of the Bible to be true, would initially go into a state of denial, and say the discovery was some plot of the devil to lure the true believer. Quite frankly, I think they would simply refuse to believe that the discovery had actually occurred.
The true Hindu would probably find the discovery most interesting, and probably Buddhists and Taoists would'nt find it much of a problem either.

I can't see that it would have any effect politically, as the earlier humans no longer existed.

Scientists, especially anthropologists and palaeoanthropologists would probably go berserk with delight.

More and more powerful radio telescopes would be contructed to intensify the search for other intelligent life in the universe.

Julian would sit back and say: "Ho, hum: surprise, surprise."

You are a trouble maker aren't you Duck

But I would image that the Christians would somehow turn this into the idea that Mars was The Garden Of Eden which man was cast out of when the "Original Sin" was committed and that God destroyed it so man could never return.

I don't really think that just bones alone would have any major impact on our current Social fabric and most things would go on as they currently are. However if there where other artefacts found that where technologically advanced it would be a totally different story and it would either unite the whole planet for a very good reason or fracture the entire world into their own little self interested ways.

But being an optimist I would hope that it would unite the world into advancing the current technology and forming a united front for any possible incoming craft as well as causing a faster investigation of Mars which would require a maned expedition to do a proper investigations and over a far wider area.

There is also the possibility that the bones found where from a past civilisation which had reached the end of its life here on Earth by causing massive pollution and killing the planet that feed it. Then after a prolonger period of time the survivors who had reverted to a primitive state would be the ones left to populate the planet and continue "Human Existence."

After all there are stories in the Hindu Sanskrit writings of Sky Chariots which left white trails in their wake and weapons that could destroy a whole city so it is quite possible that we are only one of many advancing civilisations that has inhabited this planet.

This is not so hard to believe as currently there are many myths about previous civilisations which destroyed themselves Atlantis being only one. Who can say that our current technology while working for us is the only way to go in these areas and it is quite possible that previous civilisations had different technologies that where based on different ground rules and did not involve our current Silicon Based technology.

While it is only an idea it is at least plausible and a far more explainable explanation than any other that could be currently formed with our current knowledge. If you where to think for a moment about what would happen if some thing happened that wiped most life off the planet today just how much of our current achievements would be left to find in 5,000 years?

There wouldn't be much left after that period of time and that doesn't require any adverse weather conditions to occur like an Ice Age or something like a shift in the Mantle of the planet which could result in what is now underwater to rise and what is currently above water to sink.

Other than a few ceramics there would be very little left and a lot less would remain intact than the remains from Egypt or some of the South American Countries who performed engineering feats that we would currently be hard pressed to replicate.

However I could be wrong.

The headline and news account

BONES FOUND ON MARS!

Houston, TX (AP): NASA reported today that the Mars Rover took several detailed pictures of what is believed to be human remains on the surface of Mars. The origin of the skeletal remains, however, is still a mystery. A source within the higher echelons of NASA said that scientists studying the pictures are baffled by this most recent discovery. "There is disagreement", she said, "within the scientific community as to how the bones reached the Red planet in the first place or where they may have come from." Some suggest that this is evidence that the earlier civilizations on Earth were much more advanced than we initially believed, and they were attempting to make a connection between the bones discovered on Mars and the ancient Egyptian pyramids. There are others, however, who point to this discovery as proof that we are not alone in the universe.

The Bush White House released a statement today saying that the formation of an expeditionary force is currently being discussed for an accelerated manned mission to Mars to recover the remains and bring them back to Earth for further study. This manned mission to Mars, which was not initially planned for at least another two decades, will be "stepped up" because of this remarkable discovery, said a White House spokesman. It is generally thought, however, that the mission to Mars will still take at least three years to become a reality. "The risks will be great, but the rewards will be greater", an unnamed source said. President Bush is expected to address the nation on the subject later this week.

Reached on the campaign trail in New Hampshire, Democrat party front runner Howard Dean said that this is only a ploy by the Bush administration to justify more unnecessary spending. "We should worry instead about the homeless and better paying jobs", he said. "This president wants to go to Mars on the backs of the poor", said Dean, and he indicated that he would cancel such a plan if elected to the White House in November. Al Gore, the 2000 Democrat party presidential nominee, who is currently in the frigid sub-zero northeast on a speaking tour about the devastating affects of global warming, said, "This is further proof that global warming is the biggest danger facing the Earth today". He gave no reason for the global warming connection other to say, "What happened on Mars could easily happen here on Earth if we don't address global warming." Senator Hillary Clinton ( NY), suggested that the existence of bones on Mars was still unconfirmed, and said, "This is nothing but a vast right-wing conspiracy to divert attention from my proposed national health care plan." Democrat party presidential hopeful, Wesley Clark, said, "I've supported a manned mission to Mars all along." When asked about his previous statements saying that President Bush's plan for a manned mission to Mars was "ludicrous", Clark said, "I've been consistent in my statements all along."

In a related development, it was learned that the communications channel from the Mars Rover was suddenly and inexplicably lost. "One minute it was sending all its communications just fine", said a NASA spokesman, "but then, poof, it was gone for no apparent reason."

There are others, however, who point to this discovery as proof that we are not alone in the universe. "

These bones, originally found in a crater, were later said to be remains in a mass grave that martians had dug to dispose of human remains after abducting us from the Earth.

The Bush Administration has reported that GWB is planning to abandon the 2 decades of needed intelligence and technology development time and send the entire US military to Mars by the end of next week. Although Allied countries have confirmed that man cannot survive for more than three seconds on the great red planet without further technology being developed to ensure thier survival, Bush stated "BULLHOCKEY!! We must stop these men and protect America (uh, I mean the Earth)."

Bush reiterates we need to send our troops there NOW before someone else gets credit for the invasion and the US could possibly lose out on any new found resources on the planet. After uncovering the MASS grave that held these bones, Bush later stated at a press conference, "These Martians must be stopped at all causes to ensure the safety of America, American mothers fathers and children are at risk here and we must act immediately to prevent further repercussions."

"We cannot wait any longer, our military WILL invade Mars on Sunday." said BUSH "those that will not join us, will be cast into America's hatred bin and we will buy mass quantities of thier products and destroy them in protest"

Other Allied countries wish BUSH and America well on thier mission but added that they will be holding a GLOBAL contest to define 'Paranioa' and then to explain what it is that makes 'THEM paranoid.'

The winner will get to pick a new name for the newly abandoned country of America and will be in charge of building a new military fro the once great and glovally feared super power.

Runners up will get an "Remember America?" coffe mug.

Worth a response?

by Oz_Media In reply to Still a loser I see

Of course not, not until you at least come out of hiding. What a *****, you have a lot to say, you can actually start to form a sentence but then you ruin it with your racist 'boy' remarks, look into your own history for that one.

I appreciate the sentinment though as I feel I am gettng too old for little pukes like you and need to be reminded that I'm still young once in a while.

Add another post under this one, get needs-a-life to follow. Then you can run this thread to the max too.

Funny how you BOTH hide though, hmmmmm.

Oh well, you bore me anyway, if you're going to TRY to insult someone, (pointer, you CANNOT insult me), you may try at least using some wit or sarcasm instead of just ending sentences with BOY, I'm in Canada, don't you realize that BIY means nothing? C'mon, slam Canadians or come up with something original at least. Do I have to do EVERYTHING these days? What's wrong with the kiddies of '04? They have no talents!

I know that your a little canadian boy and I'd kick your canadian *** anytime anywhere there little boy. Go ahead and take the last word like you always have to do and like little boys always have to do.

Silly Me and here I was thinking

That the term "Boy" was used by WHITE Americians when addressing BLACK Americians. Glad you put me straight on that as the "Hollywood" setting must obviously be incorrect next you'll be telling us all the the KKK doesn't exist any more and when they did they where just a bunch of really nice fellows who got together for the odd drink after work and only wore those white robes and hoods so their wifes couldn't see them drinking at their local!

Thanks for putting me straight on that I'm very greatful!
