Old data and backups.

By kendalle ·
I backup approximately 800 GB of data located on two separate servers: OSX and Windows Server 2003 R2.

The OSX server is for our art department and, in regards to growth, is fairly stable at around 300 GB. This due to the fact that data is copied to DVD and subsequently removed from the server by the art people.

The Windows server continues to grow and grow and what I've noted is I have some really old files - prior to 2000. My users don't want them off the server because every once in a great while they need to access them. However, my backup is getting large and it seems ridiculous to backup the same file over and over if it hasn't been modified in 10 years. As is now, I simply grab the entire data partition.

I?m curious to know how other individuals/companies handle having older files on the server with their backup solution. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
