on board NIC's locking whole network

By johnricarte ·
we have recently purchased 100 new pc's and after setting up 10 of these new pc's, we noticed a drastic change in network activity.
we are experiencing the whole network locking up, internet connectivity is nowhere in sight. we have noticed that the new NIC cards that are on board does not shut off after a user had logged off, it stays active and worse it changes the speed from 10T to a 100T knocking of network traffic. we tried disabling the NIC card and installing a seperate card but does anyone have a better idea other than putting an extra card. the on board card is 3c0m 3c905ctxm.

John.....check your BIOS's for a "Wake on Lan" feature. This feature allows you to start the PC from another station with the right NetAdmin utilities. The net card is going to stay active to look for a wakeup signal. I'd turn the option off. On my Award BIOS, it's under Integrated Peripherals.

it did help but we don't want to take any chances, we ended up disabling all the on board NIC's and putting in another pci NIC's which was a little bit more work. but you're suggestion did help... thanks a lot...

Assuming sending the cards back is not an option, I got a large batch of that model and had to replace all of them, Check to see if there is a cable running between the NIC and the Motherboard. If there is remove it.
That should fix the problem.
