One LONG beep on startup

By Grumpyroger ·
I just put together a Shuttle AK32a motherboard w/ an AMD Atlon XP 1800+, as well as pc133 sdram 256mb memory, a 32 meg AGP graphics card, and a modem, 15gig HD and a CD/DVD ROM. When I tried to boot the system, all I get is one long beep and no video or anything else. What went wrong?

One long beep may be a memory problem.

Do you have one 256 MB or two 128s? Make sure they are inserted into the correct slot. Look in your motherboard manual.

Your board has:
2 x 184-pin DIMM DDR
2 x 168-pin DIMM SDRAM

The memory modules should be numbered 1,2 (or perhaps 0,1). Start inserting the RAM into the first (0 or 1). If you have only one stick, but put it in the second slot, you'll not boot up.

If they are in the correct slot, make sure the RAM is seated properly.

I'm not sure about your board, but you may have to use one or the other type, not both.

Try your RAM, but one stick at a time.

Try different RAM.

Could be a bad motherboard.
