Locked

Open file problems

By mario.sena ·
Have a Win 2003 Server with an Acrobat PDF file even the Administrator cannot delete. It keeps telling me a program or user has it open. But when I check for any locks in Computer Management\Shared Folders\Open Files, nothing comes up. Ran anti-virus scan on the file, too.
Any ideas?

Boot into Safe Mode, rename files' extension, delete. If this doesn't work, you will need to boot to a safe mode command prompt (or using a start-up disk), locate the file, remove the read-only attribute, and issue the delete command.

I would try booting to safe mode then see if you can remove the file.

Did you try the suggested solution and it did not work?

MS have a utility for this. It's called "inuse.exe" and can be downloaded from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/inuse-o.asp

Good luck!

rename file, reboot system, delete file.

May try going into task manager and killing any processes that are running that aren't required of the server.

May have to boot to safe mode.
