Open Source for Hardware Management

By Cgoeckel ·
Can anyone give me suggestions for some OS software that will be able to keep track of PC's on the network?

As a small company we haven't really looked into it before but running between 3 buildings around town is taking it's toll.

Not sure what specifically you are looking for.

I would start by browsing through the foundries at www.sourceforge.net

There is a vast number of projects that different teams are working on. The Windows Fingerprint project is one that comes to mind.

Sorry for not being specific but this is what we are looking for in the software:

-Grab computer name
-IP address
-OS being used
-Make of PC (if possible but 95% of what we use are Dells anyways)
-Office Version and other software installed on PC.

you could try Microsofts MOM [Microsoft Operations Manager[ 2005. Does what Systems Management Server did but there is a version that can work in non domain environments.

gets all the information you said you wanted and more.
