Opening FTP Ports

By ChiliGuy ·
Once upon a time, I was able to download from TechRepublic, but for some time now that hasn't been happening. I've read the FAQ that tells me to: "please make sure that you have FTP ports 20 and 21 open, as well as port 80."

OK, I'm no tech guru, but I'm not clueless either. But I am clueless in finding where I can check these settings, let alone change them. Can anyone help guide me?

we need to know your os version to really help.
also, when you say that hasn't been happening, exactly what is happening? what error message do you get? my guess is you have firewall in the way. have you added norton internet security, zonealarm, mcafee security? do you have xp firewall enabled on your internet connection?

I am using Windows 2000, and I don't get an error message at all. All that happens is the browser connects and then returns an image download placeholder. There's no message, no graphic other than the placeholder itself.
