Optiplex Gx270 MT not turning on

I have a optiplex gx270 MT that when turned on the fans starts up for about 2 seconds and then it shuts up an amber light is also on the motherboard

I see it runs Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP. So it must be rather old.

Check in the tech manual what the amber light means. Then find a repair shop that wants to repair it and see if it’s worth the money. But it’s quite well possible it can’t be repaired and practically sure that it costs more then the few dollars the machine is still worth,

If there’s anything on the hard disk that you want to keep and you forgot to make a backup of, take the drive out and find something to connect it to (it must support IDE hard drives, I think).

I see working models on ebay for 40 USD.

If you must get it working, get another one cheap and then move the hard disk over to the good Dell.

No one will take such to shops here.

Even if the OP could fix the current Optiplex for a reasonable cost, with the computer’s current age, something else could suddenly fail at a higher cost making repair too costly vs. replacement. Sounds easier to replace instead of fixing.

At this point, the OP should “cut bait” with the old Dell computer and scavenge whatever can be saved for components that can be used with another, newer computer.

That amber light usually means a power or motherboard issue—try swapping the PSU first, and check for any bulging capacitors.
