By trav01 ·
Win 98, v2 I have 2 HDD in machine. Is there any way to remove Partitions in 1 of the HDD(without/short of formatting the HDD)? Thanks in advance Dave Tierney

There are 2 ways to change partition sizes.

Use fdisk and remove then create your partitions as desired.

ALL DATA on the drive will be LOST!!!

Or, you need to use a utility such as Partition Magic.

CAUTION: Even with Partition Magic, it is GOOD practice to back up your files before changing partition sizes.

Keep in mind, with the FAT32 file system, as your partitions get larger, so does the cluster size.
Even a 1 byte file needs a full cluster when stored on the drive.
If you have a lot of small files, a larger partition may actually have less file capacity.

Just a side note;

If both drives have primary partitions and logical drives, changing the partition structure WILL change the assigned drive letters.

The sequence is:
Drive 0 primary
Drive 1 primary
Drive 0 logical drives
Drive 1 logical drives
Removable media drives

PARTITIONS- Removing

I use this same thing on my computers! I load the O/S on the first partition and all software on the second. If you need anything off of the first partition just move it to the second partition. You do not need to move programs or M/S office programs. Just things like my Documents and any thing that might be lost. Try typing from start find any thing you have, like *.mov, *.mpg or what ever.
