PC Anywhere - cannot start service

By dcoyle ·
Has anyone seen this error message before, on trying to start PC Anywhere (both 9.x and 10.x versions):
No object was specified. Maybe because you are starting Host for the first time, using Services Control Panel Applet.
To start try:
1) Specify the name of the Be a Host file (*.BHF) in start parameters for the Host, using Services Control Panel Applet.
2) Start Host from PC Anywhere manager.
3) Open a Be a Host file in Explorer.

Notes to above: I believe I could start the services, no problem up to recently. After installing VNC (a free Remote Session utility) this may have started happening. I uninstalled VNC. After that, and a re-boot, I got the above eror message (still).
I tried no.2 above to no avail. No's 1 and 3 I'm not sure how to do...
Any help appreciated. Thx in advance!

You hit the nail on the head within your notes. I too have a couple of machines W98 running v9.2 and installed the Free Version of VNC and it caused issues with PCAnywhere. I uninstalled VNC and had to uninstall PCAnywhere and then reinstall PCAnywhere to get it to work again.

This worked on a test PC, but I haven't got to uninstalling VNC on the PC in question, yet. I also uninstalled PC any. Installed PC Any first and then VNC!!!
Weird but it worked in test! Thx.

Unistall pcAnywhere, run a registry clean up utility, and then re-install pcAnywhere. Symantec products can be fragile and sometimes do not play well with others. This is not a slam at pcAnywhere as I use it on a daily basis.

Un-in stalling PC any and re-installing was not enough in this case. Thx anyway.

Re-apply service pack, re-install PC Anywhere as you might have deleted common remote control DLL file used by remote control tool while uninstalling VNC.
