Would it be better to build a sleeper build desktop for $800 or to buy a prebuilt like Alienware for $1200? I want to have intense gaming and good graphics to play Cyberpunk, but I’m not sure which way to go.

If your home-built $800 PC is better than a ready-made $1200 PC, it might be a good idea. But I don’t think it will be a success.

First time builders seem to struggle but learning how may require you burning up some parts along the way.

It’s all about your risk tolerance.

One of the biggest benefits of a pre-built computer vs. custom-build is that a new, prebuilt computer will have some type of manufacturer warranty. A custom-build might only have new component warranty, but no guarantee if the parts turn out to be incompatible for whatever reason.

This question heavily depends on the specs of each PC. If I were you, I would pick whichever one has a better graphics card, and more storage. Cyberpunk is a big game, and I’d imagine you’d like to do other stuff besides play cyberpunk, so a good SSD will be suitable. And of course you’re going to want a good graphics card, unless you want to be playing with DOOM graphics.

I would not buy a prebuilt Alienware as it is super expensive for not good parts and low storage options. It would be better to buy a sleeper build desktop for 800 dollars.
